“The stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas…” And it’s in San Antonio, that families can experience lasting memories on a wondrous family adventure!

Our family of seven (five children ages 1 – 10) will provide you with a unique perspective: comments from the kids and practical info from the adults!

More than 26 million people visit San Antonio each year, perhaps because it is one of the American West’s oldest cities settled in 1731 by sixteen Spanish families from the Canary Islands. It’s also considered by some to be one of the most affordable cities in America, for both those who visit and those who live there—great news for families traveling on a budget!

Hotels in/near San Antonio
We chose two different hotels within
San Antonio--the first the Historic Crockett Hotel steps away from the Alamo and Riverwalk.

The second, the Drury Plaza Hotel Riverwalk, elegant and spacious for families, with direct access to the Riverwalk.

Both hotels included a free full breakfast and other budget-saving extras with the room, saving us several hundred dollars during our trip.

San Antonio Attractions Near the Riverwalk
We started out our sightseeing by hopping aboard the Alamo Trolley Historic Tour, which dropped us off at the great sites in San Antonio. Probably one of the best ways to know if your children will enjoy these sites is to check out the kids' expressions in the photos. For us, it was one amazing stop after another.

Top favorites were: The Alamo, San Antonio Children’s Museum, and Splashtown San Antonio

San Antonio Resources
Here you'll find a list of printed material you may wish to order from the San Antonio Visitors Bureau before heading out on your trip. We've listed planning resources for adults, and interesting historical material for your kiddies.

The Serengeti Resort
Our family also chose to vacation at The Serengeti Resort in the hill country of San Antonio. Our bungalow was perched over the expansive enclosures of African prey animals!

As with the other hotels in San Antonio, a swimming pool was available to guests--a must during the warm months. What stood out about this resort is the interactions available with the animals: lemurs, camels, giraffes, and even dogs!
