From 1972 to 1983, Hawkeye and Hot Lips served their time at the 4077th. For the first time ever, M*A*S*H fans will be thrilled to learn that the long overgrown site has been cleared, and set relics can be readily identified at Malibu Creek State Park. A replica of the memorable multi-directional sign has been installed, as have ropes staking out the M*A*S*H hospital, the swamp, the Blake/Potter tent and the mess tent. One can even hike the familiar trail to the helipad.
Those willing to make the one-mile hike to the set on most weekends will earn the right to purchase an “I hiked to the M*A*S*H site dog tag ($5). Docents are scheduled to man the site on weekends, offering free information packets, and the opportunity to purchase the dog tags, baseball caps and other M*A*S*H memorabilia.
On hand to celebrate the anniversary February 23, 2008 was Hot Lips herself, Loretta Swit, as well as Mike Farrell (Capt. BJ Hunnicut) and Father Mulcahy (William Christopher). Additional cast members were also present for the event as were Directors Charles S. Dubin, Burt Metcalfe, and Gene Reynolds. Fans contributed military equipment and set props especially for the festivities.
Please note that the sign and other enhancements will be available only when docents are present. Call ahead if you’d like to confirm these props are visible for your visit. 818-880-0367
